The go-ahead has been given for a £5 million new office development next to the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate. This decision overturns Harrogate Borough Council’s refusal of planning and listed building consent for the scheme in December last year. The permission granted includes the demolition of some existing buildings adjacent to the Old Swan Hotel.

Sophie Drury recently joined Signet Planning as a Senior Planner. She will be based at the company's Midlands office in Nottingham and will also support its Harrogate office. Sophie was previously a Senior Regeneration Officer at Walsall Council where she provided policy advice on applications and appeals for a wide range of town centre uses.

Karen Read also recently joined Signet Planning as Regional Director for the North East based at the Newcastle office. She was previously Partner at DPP Newcastle where she took a lead role in large retail-led mixed use regeneration projects, including the redevelopment of Gateshead Town Centre. APPEAL AND COSTS SUCCESS, GRAVESEND - MARCH 2012

Acting for Burlington Estates (Investments) Limited, Signet Planning has secured planning permission on appeal for a new retail unit at Whinfell Way, Gravesend.  The application was recommended for approval by officers but was refused by Members for political reasons.  Signet Planning prepared and co-ordinated the appeal which focused on traffic and planning policy and retail impact issues.  i-Transport provided highways consultancy advice.  The case put forward by Signet Planning was fully supported by the Inspector.  In addition, Signet Planning secured a full award of costs against the Council.

WEMBLEY SECTION 106 - MARCH 2012

The London Borough of Brent has unanimously approved variations to Quintain’s amendments to their Wembley Section 106 Agreement.  Signet Planning has provided advice to Quintain throughout the negotiations with Brent. 

SURREY CANAL - MARCH 2012

Planning permission has been granted for Renewal’s Regeneration of Surrey Canal, a 30 acre site surrounding Millwall FC’s Stadium in the London Borough of Lewisham.  The planning permission secures the development of 2,400 homes, the creation of 2,000 new jobs, the provision of a new station, a pioneering Multi-Faith Centre, a regional sports centre for London and much more.  The planning permission has been issued prior to the London CIL regulations coming into force on 1 April 2012.
